Donna Karan launched DKNY in New York in 1989 as a younger, lower-priced line beside her Donna Karan New York collection. LVMH bought Donna Karan International in 2001, and G-III Apparel Group bought it from LVMH in a deal announced in July 2016 and completed that December.

In the Gulf, DKNY is sold through Alyasra Fashion, which Ahmed and Mohamed Y. Al Sager founded in Kuwait in 1993. Alyasra runs dkny.ae, dkny.sa and dkny.com.kw, which sell DKNY bags, shoes, watches, sunglasses and women's clothing.
